D'Nealian Handwriting Grade K Student Workbook 2008 - Four units are included in this workbook: Getting Ready to Write, Writing Numbers, Writing Lower-Case Letters, and Writing Capital Letters. The first unit features pre-writing skill practice in the form of circling pictures that are different, drawing lines, tracing, and other simple fine-motor skills. The other units feature full-page letters for students to trace with their finger, lines with examples to trace with a pencil, and lines with which to write their own letter.

D'nealian Handwriting is known as the original continuous stroke handwriting program. The D'nealian method aims to make the transition from manuscript to cursive easier by adding a slant to the manuscript print and more similarity in the letter strokes between manuscript and cursive, and with less flourishes in general. It is based on a few simple connecting strokes, or tails, that children then use to transition into cursive writing. Manuscript print letters are learned with tails and written at a slight slant, so the change to cursive is simple; all you need to do is connect the "tails".
This series is an updated version of the classic. The Kindergarten book includes a section on correct sitting position and starts with readiness skills. Letters are first finger-traced, then copied. Numbers, lowercase letters, and uppercase letters (in that order) are introduced and practiced. Books progress sequentially through letter formation, word formation, and then sentence formation with special writing projects included (for instance, ordinal numbers, timed writing, addresses, postcards, and calligraphy in the Grade 6 book). Lessons typically include a review of letter formation, practice, review, evaluation, and editing. All of the grade level work texts are consumable and in full color.
